RE: Fuel Economy

"The Chevy dealer tells me that the new 2500 w/6.6L gas and 10 speed will deliver 20-25% better mileage (from the 9-10 mpg that I get now while towing) than that the current 1/2 ton with 6.2L gas and 6 speed trans." You really don't believe anything a car salesman says, do you?

RE: Rout assistance Vancouver, BC to Arizona

You would be better off wintering in southern CA - Arizona is getting WAY OVER-CROWDED with Snowbirds.

RE: Fifth Wheel Tag Renewal

Our renewal here in Arizona was over $1500 for a 2022 Solitude 5th wheel. I know that in Ohio it is less than $100. Obviously, it varies wildly between states. Back between 2007 and 2013, we full timed in DPs, registered in South Dakota, annual registration was around $400 - and that was for a $300,000 coach.

RE: Solar inverter -- shore power question

We full time, do a fair amount of boondocking, have solar and a residential fridge. All 110 VAC circuits are tied directly to the inverter. To answer your question, it depends on the inverter. Ours is an inverter/charger with pass thru. So all 110 circuits are tied to the inverter and when on shore power, the inverter passes the shore power thru. (Our OEM converter is unplugged, solar is the only thing charging the batteries unless I turn on the charger portion of the inverter - which is hardly ever.) We have an after market Whirlpool 20cf fridge and we draw a little over 200ah overnight while boondocking (TV, fridge, lights, microwave, etc), so just make sure you have enough battery capacity if you go with the rig you are looking at.

RE: Two different size quick connects on my trailer?

Have you talked to Grand Design? They are usually quite helpful. I wanted to know holding tank dimensions before installing the SeeLevel system. They sent me dimensions AND drawings.

RE: Car Play for tow vehicles

You could do what we do if you have a USB port connected to the audio system. We have a little over 1000 songs downloaded on to a flash (thumb) drive. We have driven from Ohio to Arizona without listening to the same song twice. Our cat, that rides in the back seat of the pickup when we move the RV, seems to prefer George Strait - which is a good thing since we have about 50 of his songs loaded on the flash drive. :)

RE: Integrated rear view camera

My choice is to have a separate monitor. We have the 3 camera Furion system with its own monitor. The monitor is attached a thingy that fits in a cupholder. So we can monitor the RV cameras AND have the navigation screen at the same time.

RE: Campgrounds with Dish Network streaming TV to Roku

I'm fairly sure what the CG is doing is illegal.

RE: Lifepo4 battery charging confusion

We have 5 206ah SOK LFP batteries that are only charged via solar & MPPT controller. My OEM converter is unplugged. My settings are 14.2 volts bulk charge, then 20 minutes on absorb charge, same voltage, then float at 13.6 volts. My MPPT controller has and will put out 100 amps which would be 20 amps per battery. Obviously, that output varies by time of day and season. You don't have to fully charge LFP batteries nor do you have to charge at the 50% discharged point like flooded batteries. So this gives you a lot of flexibility when running the generator. Answers here concerning the voltage settings will vary quite a bit. I gave you my opinion. A little off topic, but you mentioned knowing not to run large loads off your batteries/inverter. We run an A/C unit (off solar & batteries) in the RV while traveling. Our drives typically are 3 hours or less. So you can run large loads IF your inverter and battery bank are sufficiently sized.

RE: Inverter on Generator wiring?

You're welcome to come look at my setup. We'll be in Surprise until the end of October. See signature in first post for equipment.

RE: Streaming

Its pricey, but we have Starlink AND Dish. We also have TV and internet ANYWHERE.

RE: Inverter on Generator wiring?

I'm in NW Surprise. Drove here yesterday from Payson. We went across Dynamite from Rio Verde to avoid Shea. If you don't want the hassle with the 50 amp cord, you could pick up a 50 to 20 dog bone that plugs into the side of the RV, then hook up an ordinary extension cord to the inverter.

RE: Inverter on Generator wiring?

Frying the inverter is very possible as generator output would go into inverter output. The output of the transfer switch goes to the AC breaker panel. I'm assuming the inverter you're buying has pass thru. If not, forget about the transfer switch. PM me your phone number if you want to discuss.

RE: Inverter on Generator wiring?

If the inverter you are installing has a 20 amp outlet on it, you could simply pick up a 20 amp dog bone adapter and plug your shore cord directly into it. I did that on a previous Class C with a 1500 watt inverter I added. And I forgot, you absolutely want the inverter as close to the batteries as possible. Where in AZ are you?

RE: Inverter on Generator wiring?

Where is your transfer switch located? In my Solitude which is pre-wired for a generator but does not have one, the wires to my inverter/charger come from the transfer switch which is located just to the rear of the pass thru compartment. Then the output of the inverter is wired to the AC distribution panel. The OEM converter is unplugged. With this configuration, shore power is passed thru the inverter and I am able to use the load share feature on the inverter. I also have a lot of solar. With your proposal, you would want to make DANG sure inverter is turned off before running the generator.

RE: Concerns about buying from a distant dealer?

There are other places besides dealers that will do warranty work. When our Solitude was nearing one year since purchase, we took it to RV Renovators in Mesa, AZ to have 6 items repaired/replaced. They either billed Grand Design or the OEM and we paid nothing. Plus we got to stay in our full time rig while all the work was done. We bought 2 diesel pushers from a dealer in Auburn, CA - between 2006 and 2010. RV Renovators did all the warranty work on both since we lived/hung out in the central AZ area.

After reading all the comments, I sure am happy we have a 8' bed on our dually.

RE: I-77 WV

Oklahoma is ridiculous for 5 axles and they don't care what the 5 axles are under. I bitched at the toll taker (which of course did no good) and told her that I could disconnect my pickup from my tag axle MH (not current RV) before driving thru the toll booth, and pay for 3 axles and 2 axles and save quite a bit of money.

RE: Best app for spam blocking

Answering like businesses do helps to reduce spam calls. Instead of answering saying "Hello", say "Bill's RV Service". I would love to answer spam calls with "FBI, Special Agent Banks", but that might be illegal. :(

RE: electric RV appliances

When we bought our current RV, we wanted to boondock 75% of the time (and sold the house becoming full timers). So we outfitted it with a large solar setup. But in reality, it is more like 50% or less. The issue is holding tanks and needing heating or cooling to be comfortable.
